days a lot of people find themselves behind a computing device for hours on
end. Laptops, desktops, tablets or smartphones, we're all hooked. Not only does
this make your eyes more tired but it also places considerable strain on them.
This can cause migraines, eye pain and stiff, itchy eyes. Here are 4 ways you
can help prevent these and other problems to keep your eyes healthy:
1) Don't Forget To
Blink
It's
a scientific fact that blinking helps moisten your eyes. Each time you blink
your eyelids spread vital mucous and oils on your eyeballs to refresh them.
These secretions can only be applied by blinking. Thus, if you spend hours on
end behind a PC or other device, consciously get in the habit of trying to
blink more.
2) Use Lubricating
Eyedrops
Over
the counter lubricating eye-drops can help a lot. The bright lights from a
computer screen cause your eyes to focus more on the same spot. This causes
them to dry out fast and here's where problems start popping up. Applying some
lubricating eye-drops 2-4 times a day as needed can work wonders.
3) Take Frequent
Breaks
You
may have a lot of work that needs doing but you won't be able to do it if you
have a horrible migraine. Take frequent breaks from using your device. Ideally,
you want to take a few moments and look at something else at a distance. Relax
a bit and let your eyes refocus. This eases some of the strain on your eyes.
Staring at the same thing for hours prevents your eye muscles from working
properly.
4) Use Apps and
Software
Many
mobile devices contain a night mode feature. This reverses the colors so that
text appears white while the screen appears black. As a result the amount of
bright light harming your eyes is reduced. Other software like F.lux adjusts
your monitor to reduce the amount of blue light on screen. Device screens emit
a lot of it and this blue light tricks your eyes and body into thinking its
broad daylight when it’s not. Not only can this alter your sleep patterns but
it can wear away at your visual health.
